Matthew T Miller, CPA

Matt Miller has been in the accounting and finance profession for over 15 years with corporate and professional services experience primarily in public accounting, banking-broker/dealer, technology and healthcare segments. His expertise is across all core aspects of Financial Planning & Analysis.

His experience includes Citigroup Global Markets, Inc. (CGMI) principally related to the Institutional Clients Group (ICG) in Financial Reporting Operations (FRO) at the global reporting headquarters in Tampa. FRO, a shared service within Citigroup provides public investors and governmental regulators with accounting and financial reporting compliant with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Prior to Citigroup Matt spent four years at Collado & Company, a local public accounting, tax and consulting firm with a small business and professional client base. At Collado & Company he guided clients from a tax and economic perspective as well as provide advice toward operational efficiencies and synergies.

In Matt’s view, the dedication and determination of small businesses and professional clients opens up possibilities to provide integral guidance for tax savings, which is the most rewarding out of all his experiences.

When Matt was young, his father opened a HVAC business, after moderate success from a good reputation his father unfortunately faced a large assessment of underpayments and penalties from the IRS. At the time, out of concern for his family in a small community and thinking he was correcting an underpayment mistake; Matt’s father made the hard decision to close the business. But as it turned out, the mistake was on the part of the IRS.

After closing the business and making the required payments in full, a period of time passed and his father received a formal apology from a supervisor at the IRS in addition to an entire refund of their prior assessments and penalties plus interest. The entire event likely would have been prevented if advice had been obtained from a competent CPA. This left quite an impression on Matt’s father as well as the family. The experience undoubtedly played a part in Matt’s choice to focus on serving small businesses and professional clients.

Matt is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants (FICPA). He graduated from Auburn University, where he and his wife were student athletes. They have two little girls and reside in south Tampa.
